10 Expository Essay Topics on the History of Art
10 Expository Essay Topics on the History of Art If you are writing an expository paper on art history, there are many potential topics and ideas from which to choose. Once you have your topic, itââ¬â¢s time to find some useful facts that you can refer to in your writing. Consider a few interesting facts below: Buddhism has been portrayed on four panels, each using artwork to tell about four miracles of Buddha. One of them is his heavy meditation to achieve enlightenment. The second piece of artwork shows Buddha under a tree meditating while attacked from all angles the by demons of Mara who stands with his sword ready. The artwork is indicative of the many demons attacking the Buddha such as his father preventing him from leaving the palace walls as well as the suffering of humans, expressed by the half animal/half human creatures and the soldiers who are struck down by the mere serenity of the Buddha. By touching the ground in this photo, he rules over Mara and shows that the earth will witness his mastery of meditation and enlightenment. Religion has always played a heavy influence in historical pieces of art that arise from Europe. And this applies not just to paintings or sculptures but to statues and music alike. The ninth century was a period when Catholic Church experimented with music as a form of art. This is where the chants and melodies began to cross one another in parallel, something that created a drone in the embellishment. This type of music became exceedingly popular in Notre Dame located in Paris and took on the name ââ¬Å"Ars Antiqueâ⬠otherwise known as ââ¬Å"old artâ⬠. Art changed significantly during the Middle Ages. Earlier it had focused on bright colors meant to draw attention from the viewer to the main characters within the artwork. The characters in question were symbolic and meant to embody love and sensuality. During the Renaissance period, contrast and shadow effects were used in tandem with lighting to draw attention to the idea that love is more than an emotional response, and that it can also be sensuality and the love of flesh. The Middle Ages focused on content and used varying artistic ideals in order to convey sacred virtues from that period whereas the Renaissance focused on secular ideas, moving away from the church and its influence over commissioned artists. Artwork during this time transitioned from displays of Biblical scenes, where lighting reflected the angelic nature of prophets or man, and instead emphasized the sensuality and stark contrast between the gender roles and the idea of love. The Middle Ages brought with them a religious movement stemming from the transitional period which is called ââ¬Å"Modern Devotionâ⬠. This period encouraged people to read their scriptures, meditate, and seek out a personal relationship with God. But the artistic movement shifted toward Naturalism, whereby oil paintings began to resemble optimal reality as their style. In fact, the High Renaissance in Italy was responsible for influencing many of the new artists who expounded upon the compositions and themes of older generations. During the 16th century in Italy, the Late Renaissance and Mannerism were seen throughout the artwork, something that conflicted with artists throughout Europe who did not stem from Rome or enjoy the Roman influence aforementioned. Mannerism was a form of artistic technique which emphasized beautiful figures, erudite subject matter and virtuosity. Each one of their compositions was complex. This complexity was deliberate and meant to appeal to the more sophisticated taste of the existing middle class. Mannerism was synonymous with refinement, and rather than focusing on clarity or unity, these artists focused on grace and virtuoso. Beauty was redefined as artists explored unusual proportions, compositions, and figure types. Venus and Adonis is a piece of artwork which was created in 1635 and functions as a reflection on the sensuality and the detail that embodies the Baroque style. This painting is meant to focus on the themes of Adonis, the offspring of the King Cinyras of Paphos and his daughter. Because of the beautiful nature of Adonis, Venus fell in love with him, being touched by Cupidââ¬â¢s arrow. As the story unfolds Adonis is killed by a wild boar when he is hunting and the news of his death cause Venus to seek him out only to find the earth where his blood was spilled on sprouting anemones. The painting Venus and Adonis displays Venus nude, seated and pulling at Adonis not to go and stay with her. The blonde hair is shown in disorder, something meant to indicate her distress. And Adonis is tan, muscular, with a red tunic the color of which is indicative of his blood soon to be spilled. The Metamorphoses in this painting symbolize marital love. But beyond the love between Venus and Adonis this large painting includes themes of Deities, love, cupid, and nudity. Mars and Venus United by Love is an oil painting which presents Cupid binding Venus to Mars. In it, Venus is white, indicating her purity. She is being bound to the leg of Mars who is the god of war. This painting shows how opposites can be united in love, something which reflects upon mythology, unity in politics, unity in religion, and more, all of which can be bound together through love. The painting Mars and Venus United by Love explores the Baroque themes of sexuality by showing Mars in a satin, shimmering clock and Venus - nude. She is wearing nothing but strands of pearls in her hair and ears. Also gold on her belt and bracelets. The selection of white represents purity while the selection of gold indicates royalty, or the gods and goddesses that the two characters are. These color selections are meant to accentuate the aristocracy. Peter Paul Ruben was the painter at the end of the Protestant Reformation which took place in the Netherlands. It was during this period that sensuality, color, and movement were used to depict different themes. This artist is well known for his historical paintings, his landscapes and counter-reformation artwork. He painted in Italy, where his famous Venus and Adonis was completed. Paolo Veronese was a painter from the Renaissance period which took place from 1528 until 1588 in Italy, whose paintings became quite popular because of their colors and decorations. The painter applies even more Mannerist stylization by elaborating on architectural settings and color, specifically in his painting Mars and Venus United by Love. Misbehavior and its effects on education Research Paper
Misbehavior and its effects on education - Research Paper Example Children are in the process of growth and development in both mind and body and are bound to try and explore their environment for learning about. During the course of learning, they exhibit behavior, some which is acceptable and some not acceptable. There are many contributing factors for child misbehavior and reasons why they behave in the way they do. Some of the primary contributing factors that lead to this behavior in children at school are poor socio- economic background, conflict in the family brought about by divorce and alcohol and drug abuse and in cases of minority groups that are segregated and discriminated in society. It is mostly children who come from such backgrounds that are troublesome and misbehave in school. Sometimes when children are very tired, hungry or ill misbehave for a temporary period. However, long term misbehavior does not fall under this category because of the complexity involved. Children could also misbehave when they feel bad they are not in cont rol of the situation. In such cases they try to retaliate and take revenge for their satisfaction. In such situations the child lacks maturity and is unable to handle the situation and so exhibits poor behavior. Self esteem and confidence play major roles in the life of a child and when it is lacking there is bound to be disciplinary problems. Craving for attention is another spoke in the wheel of good behavior and when children do not get the attention they deserve, they resort to different ways in order to either gain attention or divert ones attention to keeping a check on their behavior. Misbehavior in the true sense of the word occurs when a child ââ¬Å"choosesâ⬠to misbehave. Poor discipline or misbehavior results in poor learning outcomes. Therefore, if the teacher needs the child to do better academically, then the forst place to start the intervention would be to check the studentââ¬â¢s behavior from the onset. Not completing oneââ¬â¢s homework, absenting onesel f from school or been inattentive in the classroom, leads to less acquiring of knowledge and further behavioral problems. In such a scenario, the teacher plays a pivotal role in the life of the child and through counseling and other strategies should try their best to get the child back on the right track. Prevention of Misbehavior The first step towards teaching a child good behavior is by explaining and making them understand that bad behavior is inappropriate and unacceptable. Timely interventions when teaching a child how to behave in the right manner is indispensable. In case, the child lacks confidence and self esteem, the teacher could play a major role in the childââ¬â¢s life by providing him good opportunities to give expression to his work, thereby making the child more confident about himself. For children who crave attention by misbehaving, the teacher could spare some time and listen to the childââ¬â¢s problems and provide a portent platform for the child to get t he attention he needs. Children who come from homes where the parents are divorced should be given proper counseling in order to learn coping strategies that would help them along in their own lives. Single parent children who misbehave should be advised by the teacher on how to cope with the problems at home and make adjustments by accepting their single parent status. Teachers could act as guiding lights for parents who are alcoholic and see that they go in for therapy to bring about a change in

Jehovah Witnessess feelings about receiving blood and how it should be Research Paper
Jehovah Witnessess feelings about receiving blood and how it should be handled with a minor child in a life or death situation - Research Paper Example The insistence of Jehovahs Witness parents in refusing blood transfusions for their children can be viewed in the larger context of alternative religious beliefs and their effect on medical treatment. Many people in contemporary society are guided by religious beliefs which prohibit them from accessing medical care in favor of spiritual healing (Catalano, 2010, p. 157). Whilst adults have the right to refuse medical treatment, their behavior becomes controversial when they refuse medical treatment for their ill children (Catalano, 2010, p. 157). The decision to refuse medical treatment to children may necessitate intervention by the State in cases when children suffer from serious illnesses (Catalano, 2010, p. 157). Many Constitutional issues are raised by this situation, such as religious freedom, the right to privacy, and fundamental liberty issues related to parenting (Catalano, 2010, p. 157). In such cases the Courts are forced to decide between the religious liberty of the paren ts and the States interest in protecting the lives of minors (Catalano, 2010, p. 158). This matter if particularly controversial because no matter what the outcome of, somebodys rights are infringed (Catalano, 2010, p. 158). In some cases government intervention is secured too late and the childs life is lost (Catalano, 2010, p. 158). Between 1975 and 1995, 172 children died because they were denied medical care for religious reasons (Catalano, 2010, p. 158). The State must balance the interests of religious parents and their innocent children, respecting the welfare and autonomy of both parties. A fundamental concern of the state is the protection of the welfare of children, one for which it may intervene when it is absolutely necessary (Catalano, 2010, p. 159). Despite this fundamental concern, the United States gives parents ample autonomy to raise their children in the

Human Sexuality Paper Essay Example for Free
Human Sexuality Paper Essay When I was assigned this paper, I wanted to choose a paraphilia that I misunderstood the most. People who have sexual sadism disorder have frequent fantasies about sexual arousal results from inflicting psychological or physical suffering on a sexual partner, even humiliation and pain. This isnââ¬â¢t just a common act of rough sex. In the worst cases sexual sadism involves rape, torture, and even murder, the death of the victim produces sexual excitement. People who take their sexual addiction to these levels need psychiatric help or to be jailed. The arousal for these people is the terror in which they see in their victims. However, not all cases of sadism are so serious. Some are also people who do not torture so bad. This is known as sadomasochism. With this disorder, people are incredibly aroused by being tied up by their partner. Many normal couples use spanking, tying up, and a bit of force for fore play. This is not to be mistaken with sadism.. This is actually very common and kind of a fad now. There are sex stores that sell the type of products for this type of foreplay such as collars, whips, and all types of toys. There are a number of psychological theories about sadism. Most are based off of cases studies. Freud had two different views on the sadism. First he thought that aggressiveness with sexuality was urges. But he also thought that early in life children may have witnessed a sexual act or sex of their parents when they were just children. There were also psychologists that though that children developed sadism when their caretakers bring sexual pleasure and deny it when initiating toilet training or prevent asturbation. Psychologist sometimes believe that a person develops a psychological imprint during some earlier sexual experience at times.. Others believe that it is a slow process that relates back to when the individual becomes aroused and they then remember and reinforce it later in life during sex. A lot of men when asked are able to remember incidents in childhood or early adolescent that triggered them to become aroused. Treatment Someone with sexual sadism may never become known to the public, treatment or law enforcement. If people can limit their sexual sadism to istinct levels in a relationship, it is very controllable and not harmful if the partner is willing, which often can happen. For the ones who are brought to the attention of police officials the sadism has usually made itself into dangerous activity that have harmed others Conclusion In my thoughts, I feel that many and most people have sexual impulses that they are ashamed of. Most of which are not harmful, however, I do believe that individuals that are harmful to others need other resources and help with their condition to prevent the damage that is possible. Some hold in urges for so long that they are just simply uncontrollable in the heat of the moment. I feel any individual with these feelings need to seek counseling and try to pin point reasons and ways of subsiding their urges right off the bat. If the person affected is a serious danger to society then society needs to take serious measures to assure everyoneââ¬â¢s safety. People who choose not to seek treatment could be just your average next door neighbor who looks and acts completely normal. And then suddenly one day they snap and become a danger to who ever is around them. This is concerning for everyone in society.

Technology Against Progress Essay -- Technology Society
Have you ever wonder why you find yourself stuck in an electric breakdown not knowing what to do with your self? Or being compel to look your e-mail or Facebook account everyday day? You are not the only one, our society is depending on an omnipresent source of technology that is affecting every moment of our lives. We are using it as a way to deliver and receive information, to entertain ourselves and express our individuality. It has been growing exponentially since the dawn of time to fulfill humanityââ¬â¢s aspiration. Although, for the new generations, it as been affecting them negatively in crucial aspects of their lives. The lack of physical activities is the number one cause of overweight and obesity for teenagers. Research as proved that, ââ¬Å"For adolescents aged 12 to 17, increases in overweight and obesity rates over the past 25 years have been notable; the overweight or obesity rate of this age group more than doubled, and the obesity rate tripledâ⬠(Margot Shileds, 2008, p.2). Of course, technologies might not be the only source of this issue but consider this, ââ¬Å"For children aged 6 to 11 and adolescents aged 12 to 17, the likelihood of being overweight or obese tends to rise as time spent watching TV, playing video games or using the computer increasesâ⬠. (Margot Shileds, 2008, p.2). In addition, ââ¬Å"According to research, playing video games accelerates the speed at which dopamine, believed ââ¬Å"reinforce behavior that produces pleasure,â⬠is produced. Addictive drugs such as cocaine and heroin cause the brain to produce more dopamineâ⬠(Murray McArthur, 2008, p.418). As you can see, entertainment have a price; not only adolescent spend more time in front of technology apparatuses but they can become strongly addicted to them. ... ...eds, Margot. Pricing Strategy and Distribution Essay
Nature Beauty Price strategy will be the penetration theory for my product. Penetration is pricing low to stimulate the sales, encourage trail, and trigger by word of mouth. Nature Beautyââ¬â¢s mineral powder foundation will not be a new product that no company has similar to. We will need to start by gaining the trust of the consumers by word of mouth and different marketing strategies to the targeted customers. This way once the product has some buzz and customers appreciate the products value, we can price the mineral powder foundation at higher price do to the demand of the product. The competing cosmetic company has a similar product that claims help the skin improve. This company will be established in the cosmetic industry and customers will have trust in them. We at Nature Beauty are striving to become a powerhouse cosmetic line so we can price according the value we believe we hold. Penetration strategy is the best the company because there are a lot of other producst that compliments the mineral powder foundation and other general everyday hygiene use type of products that want to bring out. With this strategy we can price the other products low as well and hopefully with the trust of Nature Beauty mineral powder foundation gains it will help us introduce them. Even though Nature Beauty can be considered a luxury cosmetic, we also want it to become a necessity to the consumers as well. We want the demand for it increases by making the consumers feel like this product is a need and want them to live by this Brand. Penetration strategy will also work with medium pricing range. Medium is a competitive approach. Pricing the mineral powder foundation could be slightly price above or slightly price below. Nature Beauty picks slightly below. This goes into the theory for starting off low in and gaining value to price higher. We want the customers to perceive this product as safe and efficient and more valuable compared to the leading cosmetic competitor. I believe we will have to start out as an alternative cosmetic and show that we are just as good or a better brand. Also with the feedback from the customerââ¬â¢s feedback and response to our product, can determine the value of its offering. The leading competitor pricing strategy are mostly medium or high leaning towards the Skimming theory. You have companies like Revlon, Cover Girl who are well known, easy, and are very accessible to the consumer at your local drug store or even supermarkets. They put off a new product and it is the priced high and after a while you will see the product come down then maintain at lower price. Nature Beauty is pricing tactics is Value pricing. According to EZine articles. com, Value pricing is a strategy that businesses with a high value product or service use. The strategy is to sell the high value product or service at a low, value price. Note: this price is not to be below cost but at what the customer would perceive to be a low price. Nature Beauty believes this a good fit for its product because all of the products are really good, safe, and highly effective. Also Ezine articles mentioned that ââ¬Å"Customersââ¬â¢ perceptions are influenced by the value they perceive in the relationship between the attributes of the product or service and the price they will have to pay for that product or service. Customers also are influenced by price comparison amongst similar products or servicesâ⬠. Nature Beauty provides a product that conceals the unwanted blemishes, scars, tattoos, and gives you a even flawless skin tone while with the alone extracts, and organic ingredients helps improve your skin for a softer and clearer skin. We believe if the consumers see the attributes that this product have and also trust the other product that compliments the mineral powder foundation, we will price higher to the true value of the product. Even though we are using the Value pricing tactic, Nature Beauty believes we are a good brand and want the consumers to believe that we are high quality with a good price. In the psychology of pricing the ââ¬Å"price is a clear, tangible cue, higher the price set the highest expectation. However, even though itââ¬â¢s easier to start high and lower prices later down the line, depending on sales of the products, we donââ¬â¢t want to jump the broom on the price set. We believe that we meet the expectation for a higher price and will strive to become a brand that can set a premium price like it leading competitors. Nature Beauty does want to use the theory framing on the products that compliments the mineral powder foundation. Framing is pricing higher prices and then discount to make the consumers feel better. There will be promotions that will give consumers the chance to try these products such lotion, facial cleanser, beauty bar soap, make-up remover wipes, and future idea products for free or at a discounted price. But they will not always be on sale. Nature beauty will push these products out individually starting out high then discounting them after we introduced the new and latest product.

Synopsis Of A Weather Watcher Shines Bright Red Above...
KTTCââ¬â¢s weather watcher shines bright red above Minneapolis/ Saint Paulââ¬â¢s skyline. Warmer weather is on its way. The mid-afternoon news report confirms it. It is hot. Scorching hot. Temperatures were already in the 90s and expected to climb. Tonight those lucky enough to afford air-conditioning will ramp it up and seek peace in cooler conditions. Bud, a 70 year-old veteran of the Marine Corps, isnââ¬â¢t so lucky. He does not have air-conditioning. Instead, two strategically placed ceiling fans cool his 2nd story walk up. One creeks back and forth in the dining room while the other whirs in his bedroom. They do little to stymie the heat, however, along with an open window, the miniscule breeze circulating through the apartment is better thanâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Today and every day since a drunken driver t-boned her vehicle in the middle of an intersection Molly has issues getting to work. If she calls in sick today, she loses her job. It would be her 3rd lost job in 9 months. Losing yet another job, means that she and her husband would not be able to pay their rent. Not being able to afford rent means tonight she and her husband will have another fight. Though their experiences are vastly different, Bud and Molly are two very text book examples of people living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). They are also two representative examples of people who have the potential to come into contact with a police officer or another emergency response team during a crisis. An officer or 1st responder may respond to a simple welfare check for an elderly veteran, or the officer maybe called to intervene in a more complex case of situational domestic violence. While clinicians and therapists have made strides in mental health crises, little has been done to get evidence base practices and techniques (EBP/ EBT) into the hands of those who need it the mostââ¬âthose on the front line, the police and emergency responders. Michael Nerheim, a Stateââ¬â¢s Attorney from Lake County, Illinois, told the Chicago Tribune, ââ¬Å"If officerââ¬â¢s arenââ¬â¢t properly trained they could mistake something thatââ¬â¢s really a mental illness for aggression or non-complianceâ⬠(Olsen, 2016). With The National Alliance on Mental Illness reporting that every year 2
